Hello and welcome!! I am very pleased to announce that I have a new collection with Riley Blake Designs!!! You might recognize some of the prints from the apparel fabric we did last year which is available now. This new Sonnet Dusk is printed on beautiful high quality quilting cotton and will be available October 2021.
If youβre wondering about the name, Sonnet Dusk, I am happy to share with you my inspiration for it. While my husband was stationed with the US Air Force in the Mojave Desert, I did not let the arid environment keep me from gardening. In our little backyard, nestled between mountain ranges and stretches of nothing but Joshua Trees and wind turbines, I was able to grow my David Austin roses and dahlias, along with many other colorful flowers for the bees and butterflies to play in. I quickly learned that, with the extreme temperatures and sunlight in the daytime, the only way these flowers would thrive was if I watered them at an hour they were safer from those elements. So it became a regular habit for me to water them in the crepuscular light of dawn, often as the birds were chattering above me in the trees, and later, when the sun went down and the stars began to shine. This being the most poetic activity and the most lovely time of day, it seemed only natural to call what it inspired Sonnet Dusk.
Sonnet Dusk has 6 prints in 3 color ways for a total of 18 prints. It contains tons of flowers and foliage, moths, seed blenders, and organic polka dot, and a stripe. I wanted the colors to be lush and a little moody, but there are some moments of lightness to balance everything out.
I was so lucky to be able to get my hands on some advance yardage so I could sew up some samples to share :)
This quilt is the Diamond Ripples pattern by Then Came June. I made the baby size and used Riley Blake confetti cotton solids alongside Sonnet Dusk.
I made a couple of simple pillows; an Irish Chain and a Dresden plate.
These quilt coats might just be may favorites! I used Simplicity 8305 & 8298 (I think they are out of print). I used the Riley Blake solid in Canyon Rose and first quilted enough yardage then cut my pattern pieces out and appliquΓ©d the Dresden Plates before sewing the coats together.
The following patterns are all by Anna Graham of Noodlehead. You can find them all here.
These are both the Makerβs Tote pattern. I made both sizes.
This is the Cargo Duffle bag pattern.
My sweet little assistant is modeling the Sandhill Sling.
A few pencil pouches.
And last but not least a tablet case!
You can take a peek at the storyboard below or on the Riley Blake Designs site as well.
Thank you so much for stopping by and I cannot wait to see what you will make from Sonnet Dusk!!
